Everything's going Mobile!

More and more people are using their smartphones as web browsing and buying devices, yet so few website’s are compatible – responsive is the way to go and Alchemy interactive can tell us why with their article: Everything's going Mobile

Everything's going Mobile - 2012 mobile usage stats

If you weren't sure that mobile internet is taking over – here's a summary of stats to prove it. Statistics compiled by Cisco

Mobile Traffic

Global mobile data traffic grew 70 percent in 2012. Global mobile data traffic reached 885 petabytes per month at the end of 2012, up from 520 petabytes per month at the end of 2011.
Last year's mobile data traffic was nearly twelve times the size of the entire global Internet in 2000. Global mobile data traffic in 2012 (885 petabytes per month) was nearly twelve times greater than the total global Internet traffic in 2000 (75 petabytes per month).
Mobile video traffic exceeded 50 percent for the first time in 2012. Mobile video traffic was 51 percent of traffic by the end of 2012.
A variety of mobile devices

Mobile connections

Mobile network connection speeds more than doubled in 2012. Globally, the average mobile network downstream speed in 2012 was 526 kilobits per second (kbps), up from 248 kbps in 2011. The average mobile network connection speed for smartphones in 2012 was 2,064 kbps, up from 1,211 kbps in 2011. The average mobile network connection speed for tablets in 2012 was 3,683 kbps, up from 2,030 kbps in 2011.
In 2012, a fourth-generation (4G) connection generated 19 times more traffic on average than a non-4G connection. Although 4G connections represent only 0.9 percent of mobile connections today, they already account for 14 percent of mobile data traffic.
The top 1 percent of mobile data subscribers generate 16 percent of mobile data traffic, down from 52 percent at the beginning of 2010. According to a mobile data usage study conducted by Cisco, mobile data traffic has evened out over the last year and is now lower than the 1:20 ratio that has been true of fixed networks for several years.

Smartphone Growth

Average smartphone usage grew 81 percent in 2012. The average amount of traffic per smartphone in 2012 was 342 MB per month, up from 189 MB per month in 2011. Smartphones represented only 18 percent of total global handsets in use in 2012, but represented 92 percent of total global handset traffic. In 2012, the typical smartphone generated 50 times more mobile data traffic (342 MB per month) than the typical basic-feature cell phone (which generated only 6.8 MB per month of mobile data traffic).

Data Usage

Globally, 33 percent of total mobile data traffic was offloaded onto the fixed network through Wi-Fi or femtocell in 2012. In 2012, 429 petabytes of mobile data traffic were offloaded onto the fixed network each month. Without offload, mobile data traffic would have grown 96 percent rather than 70 percent in 2012. Android is now higher than iPhone levels of data use. By the end of 2012, average Android consumption exceeded average iPhone consumption in the United States and Western Europe.

Mobile devices

In 2012, 14 percent of mobile devices and connections were potentially IPv6-capable. This estimate is based on network connection speed and OS capability.
In 2012, the number of mobile-connected tablets increased 2.5-fold to 36 million, and each tablet generated 2.4 times more traffic than the average smartphone. In 2012, mobile data traffic per tablet was 820 MB per month, compared to 342 MB per month per smartphone.
There were 161 million laptops on the mobile network in 2012, and each laptop generated 7 times more traffic than the average smartphone. Mobile data traffic per laptop was 2.5 GB per month in 2012, up 11 percent from 2.3 GB per month in 2011.
Nonsmartphone usage increased 35 percent to 6.8 MB per month in 2012, compared to 5.0 MB per month in 2011. Basic handsets still make up the vast majority of handsets on the network (82 percent).

FUSE LINZI STOPPARD & BEN LEE LAUNCH NEW AUDI A6 UNVEILED IN JAMAICA

The world's leading electric violin duo FUSE (Linzi Stoppard and Ben Lee) launch the new Audi A6 for ATL Autohaus in Kingston Jamaica with a performance infront of 600 VIP guests and dignitaries.
FUSE LAUNCH NEW AUDI A6 IN JAMAICA
THE runway at the Tinson Pen Aerodome provided the perfect setting for the world’s leading violin duo to unveiling of the new Audi A6.
ATL-branded 'flight attendants' lined either side of the red carpet leading up to the Sandals hangar where the car stood undercover before it was revealed.
It was time for the ATL deputy chairman Adam Stewart to switch gears to introducing the evening's 'special guest' - the 2012 Audi A6 unveiled to the live soundtrack of violin stars Linzi Stoppard and Ben Lee, aka FUSE.
FUSE came to global prominence after their critically celebrated album “FUSE” was released by edel/Universal. Linzi and Ben turned their backs on cross-over clichés and took the violin world on a journey that re-wrote the benchmark releasing a 14 track album of lovingly interpreted anthems taking the listener on an uplifting journey never heard before.
Tracks include ‘Beat It’ by Michael Jackson and Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’, hits by Kiss, Led Zeppelin and Europe.
In 2010/11 FUSE performed live on TV to audiences of over 200 million including appearances on GQ Men of the Year Awards, headlining the Istanbul Cross-Over Festival, London & Paris Fashion Weeks, several performances at the Royal Albert Hall and Glastonbury Festival. FUSE showed the electric violin could be just as versatile with the right imagination and virtuoso intent.
From the stage between 2 gleaming Audi A6s FUSE thrilled 600 guests with their stunning visual and musical experience, followed by a special encore on the satellite stage outside the hanger infront of Jamaica’s fastest car – the AUDI TT DTM race car.
"In my 25 years in the industry, it's the first time that I have ever been to two functions of this magnitude in one day, " said Diego Ramos, vice president of Audi for Latin America and the Caribbean.
"This new A6 is the business car of the world. It is ideal for successful people...like entrepreneurs, lawyers and engineers. It's for anyone who appreciates technology and performance," he said.
This seventh-generation A6 sedan is over 16 feet long and six wide. Its optional LED headlight gives the vehicle its distinctive appearance. The numerous aluminium components and the high-tech steels reduce its weight roughly by 66 pounds.
"We have the three-litre, V-6 supercharge Audi, which moves from 0 to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds. We also have the 2.8-litre, with an eight-speed multitronic transmission and the two-litre, four-cylinder with an eight-speed multitronic transmission," Stewart told his audience. "And, the styling, the safety features and the number of options these cars have, is mind blowing."
With other German brands squarely in Audi's sights, Stewart asked if there was anyone present who wanted to drive the A6. There were many takers and, when the hangar's doors were opened, they duly went outside to the roar of Doug Gore speeding on the tarmac in his Audi TT race car, eager to get a feel of the more sedate A6.

The world’s leading electric violin duo, FUSE’s Linzi Stoppard and Ben Lee wowed guests with their stunning brand of visual and musical entertainment. SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, as a committed supporter of emerging talent and creativity, were the partner of the evening and supplied the beautifully crafted Global Fashion Awards’ trophies for the prestigious 2011 SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Fashion Award.
